Random acts of kindness day

What with studying, work and family life demanding your time and attention, it’s all too easier to get caught up in day to day life.

But it is important that we stop to think and consider others, and how what we do – even the smallest of things – can have a big impact on their day. This Sunday (17th Feb) is Random Acts of Kindness Day so to celebrate, here are 31 simple acts of kindness ideas for you to try. 

  1. Call your mum/dad/grandparent
  2. Ask how someone’s day is going
  3. Buy a coffee for your friend
  4. Help your classmate out with their assignment
  5. Give someone a compliment
  6. Pick up litter when you see it
  7. Make dinner for all your flatmates
  8. Hold the door open for the person behind you
  9. Reach out to old friends
  10. Volunteer
  11. Donate your old clothes to charity
  12. Lend a friend a book/ movie
  13. Buy some extra food and give it to a food bank
  14. Offer your classmate/work colleague a lift home
  15. Let another driver go in front of you in traffic
  16. Post a supportive message on social media
  17. Give up your seat on a bus for another person
  18. Buy your friend their favourite chocolate bar
  19. Take time out of your day to listen to someone
  20. Tip your waiter/waitress when you go out for a meal
  21. Make a playlist and share it with someone you think it will help
  22. Arrange to go out with your workmates/ uni friends at the end of the day
  23. Make everyone feel included in a group situation
  24. Say thank you
  25. Take your flatmate’s library books back for them
  26. Donate some food/toys to an animal shelter
  27. Do the washing up (even if it’s not your turn)
  28. Leave a note with a positive message for someone to find
  29. Be kind to the cashiers/store assistants when you’re out shopping
  30. Keep an umbrella spare and lend it to someone in case of a sudden downpour!
  31. Let someone know that you appreciate them

We should also remember to be kind to ourselves! (We’re often our own worst critics) So take time out for yourself every now and again. Read that book. Watch that movie. Take a walk. Call a friend.
