Your student life will be key part of your university experience and something you will always remember. Your time at university will bring many opportunities to make new friends – not just on your course but at your student accommodation, at the students’ union and through the clubs and societies you join.
If you have a sporting interest or just want to maintain a healthy lifestyle during your studies Wrexham Glyndŵr University has a wealth of sporting facilities both on-campus and near-by. Our location means that if you like outdoor activities there are plenty of opportunities to continue a sport that you enjoy or even try a new one.
On the Wrexham campus there is the North Wales Regional Hockey Stadium and the Wrexham Glyndŵr University Sport Centre which features a fitness suite, dance studio, astroturf pitch and a six badminton court-sized sports hall where a variety of sports are available. The Students’ Union also has a number of sports clubs and competes in university leagues for football, netball, hockey, basketball and rugby.
If you’re seeking an energetic social life the Students’ Union will be at the heart of the action. It does everything you’d expect: organising parties, comedy nights, live music and student balls. There is also a dedicated student night at Liquid and Envy in the town centre. As well as a whole host of entertainment our Students’ Union also runs a wide range of societies and clubs and they welcome ideas for new ones too. With plasma TV screens, pool tables, Wi-Fi and a stage area for live bands, DJs and comedy events. It is a great place to relax, study and socialise on campus.
Beyond campus, the town centre is home to a good selection of venues ranging from traditional pubs to more modern bars and clubs - all within a short walk of each other. There is always plenty going on a new band to see or a student offer to be taken advantage of.
When you need a break for some food and a drink, then our campus provides a wide range of outlets that offer everything from a snack through to a main meal. For off campus food shopping, Wrexham has all of the major supermarket chains. As well as Sainsbury's and Aldi right next door to the campus on the Plas Coch Retail Park you'll find Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Lidl all within a short distance. There are also several food festivals and markets in Wrexham and its surrounding area.
If you wish to live away from home whilst you are studying, Wrexham Glyndŵr University has accommodation options on its Wrexham and Northop campuses as well as accommodation close by. They can also put you in touch with private landlords if you decide to house share.
Being based somewhere with a relatively low cost of living compared to many other towns and cities will also allow you to take advantage of the many activities and events on campus and nearby.
The supportive environment we offer is another reason our students choose us. Our lecturers are always on hand to give advice should you need it and we make sure our class sizes are kept small which develops a friendly community. Should you need it, our support services team are on hand to give advice and find solutions from disability support through to academic study support and everything in between.
We’re sure you will agree that Wrexham has everything on a student’s wish list, but don’t just take our word for it – see what our students have to say.
“The atmosphere around the campus is friendly, caring and positive. An advantage of the university being slightly smaller than others is that there is a strong sense of community amongst students and staff. This is really positive as everyone is recognised and known on an individual basis, and this creates a strong feeling of security, support, motivation and community.” Gwennan, Psychology student
