Wrexham Glyndŵr University academics have a wide range of research interests. The University specialises in applied research, meaning its research has a direct impact on society and industry. Our research also helps to keep our courses up-to-date and relevant to working world.
We are passionate about the arts and creative industries and have a strong focus on the core values of the creative arts and how these can be brought together to solve problems. Some of research interests in this area include creative media technologies, humanities, journalism and broadcasting, theatre, television and performance, Welsh and art and design utilising the themes of social engagement, art in health, material thinking and, technology and innovation. Our art and design lecturers are practising artists who regularly exhibit their work in either one-off exhibitions around the UK and Europe, or in touring exhibitions.
Our science and engineering expertise and research is based around the core areas of materials and manufacturing (including advanced composites, large scale precision optics, water soluble polymers and photovoltaics), internet technologies and communication, and engineering (fluid dynamics). The Applied Research in Computing Laboratory Centre hosts a biennial international conference on Internet Technologies and their Applications.
Our health and society expertise reflects a wide range of specialisms from nursing and psychology through to sport science, education and criminal justice. Our academics engage actively with policy makers, professional practitioners and research users, both nationally and internationally.
