Glyndŵr University's Assessment Centre provides a professional assessment, advice and training service for those with disabilities attending higher education.
We provide Study Needs Assessments for students who are eligible for the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA), which involves talking to you about your disability and any barriers you experience and then recommending the support strategies and equipment which will allow you to access your education on a level playing field with your peers.
Our assessments lead to recommendations for equipment, services and support that may be provided to students via DSA funding. Our team of assessors have experience and expertise in assisting students with a wide range of needs including dyslexia, hearing and visual impairments, physical difficulties, communication impairments, mental health difficulties and Aspergers Syndrome.
The Centre has excellent facilities for the evaluation of a wide range of equipment and software. Equipment includes desktop and laptop PCs, Apple Mac computers, printers, scanners, ergonomic furniture, posture aids, keyboards and mouse alternatives. We also have a range of mind mapping software, text to speech systems, voice recognition and many other adaptive and supportive applications and programmes.
This equipment is regularly reviewed and updated to reflect advances in assistive and mainstream technology. Assessments undertaken by Glyndŵr University are independent of all manufacturers and suppliers of assistive technology, and the centre provides unbiased, individualised recommendations for appropriate technical support. Students can make an informed choice to suit their needs from the range of potentially useful equipment available.
