Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

I started my full time Business Management degree in 2009 and decided to stay on to do my Professional Graduate Certificate in Education graduating in 2013.  During my time at Glyndwr I developed a range of ‘soft skills’ which have helped me greatly in employment. I learnt to work successfully within a team environment and developed my presentation and research skills, amongst many other skills.

I am currently a Business Studies Lecturer at Coleg Cambria, Wrexham. My role involves planning, delivering and assessing a range of Business courses as well as being a personal tutor to our learners.

My main career highlight was being qualified as a teacher at the age of 22. A few years prior to this I would never have imagined being in such a situation. I have worked hard to achieve this and I am proud of my journey which has taken me to this point.

I chose to study at Glyndwr University due to my family history.  Both my mother and one of my elder brothers had studied at the University and this gave me to the motivation to follow in their footsteps. I wanted to stay in the local area and felt that Glyndwr was a good fit for my needs as they offered a range of Business courses which I have seen has expanded even more since my time at the University.

Before I came to Glyndwr I did not achieve my full potential. I did reasonably well in school and college but did not push myself as much as I should have done. The atmosphere in University was perfect for me and helped me to gain independence and gave me a focus.  Studying at Glyndwr helped me to find a suitable career path and it gave me the platform I needed to get to the next stage in my life.

Studying a Business Management degree has certainly been a major benefit to me when teaching Business. I have been able to teach a wide range of topics including marketing, finance, Law and Human Resource Management. As I had studied a wide range of topics during my degree, I was confident in delivering these diverse subject areas.

I would advise anyone who is interested in becoming a teacher to only do so if they can put in long-hours! It is an extremely rewarding job which has lots of benefits but it is not for everybody.  However, if you are passionate about your subject and are hard-working, you should give it a shot!

I would recommend Glyndwr University as it helped me greatly to get to the next stage of my life. Some of the lecturers at the University helped to inspire me to seek a career in education and for that I am very grateful.

My favourite memory of my time at Glyndwr was handing in my dissertation. The relief I felt when I submitted it is something I will always remember. I worked incredibly hard on the task and was quietly confident of achieving a good grade.
