Course: BA Hons Criminal Justice (2006)
MA Criminal Justice and Criminology (Present)
I was working part time as a Tenancy Support Worker at Barnardos and looking after my young family. I had previously studied my BA (Hons) Criminal Justice at Glyndwr University and had thoroughly enjoyed the experience so I chose to return to Glyndwr to study for my MA.
I have recently qualified as a Probation Officer and am working full time for the National Probation Service. My Masters has given me the opportunity to study and develop my knowledge in areas that have interested me. My studies have shaped my career path and led me to where I am today.
The course was available part time and offered distance learning which fitted in with my employment and family commitments. I also knew the lecturers and felt comfortable with them.
This flexibility has enabled me to study as and when suits me, which means I have found the whole experience more enjoyable.
I am looking forward to completing my research dissertation as this is an opportunity to look at an area in depth that interests me. I have spent a significant amount of time in the library!! Completing the whole course has been an achievement given the fact that I work full time and have four children!
I have always found my lecturers to be supportive and helpful, along with having a wealth of the knowledge of the subject they teach. They all have relevant work experience prior to coming to lecture and this always made me believe they had a genuine interest in the subject area.
I would tell a prospective student thinking of coming to Wrexham Glyndwr University to definitely come! I love the place and will miss it when I finish my studies next year. It has been a big part of my life for a number of years and I have some fond memories of the place.
