2014 - 2016
I have been working in the food industry for twenty years, prior to completing my Executive MBA. I currently work as Operations Manager for Rowan Foods on the Wrexham industrial estate. My job is to ensure the smooth running of the site, in compliance with Health and Safety, food safety legislation, and ensuring the right quality is achieved every time. 850 people are employed at the site, their welfare and job satisfaction is paramount to the success of the business.
I am very proud that I have helped to create an environment where staff turnover has reduced by 80%. I have also managed large investment plans to improve the business and also grown the business three fold in the past 10 years.
The college location was a huge factor in choosing Wrexham Glyndwr. Studying with local business leaders was also a draw to understand what was important to them & the local area. It was a real benefit to meet and get to know business leaders in the local area.
Studying at Wrexham Glyndwr gave me valuable insight into a range of subjects, every lecture gave me a new experience and enabled me to bring something back into the workplace to benefit the business. The University also has great facilities.
I was a very hard working student, who intertwined working life experiences with academic back up. I enjoyed the challenge and gained valuable insight from my fellow students and lecturers. The lecturers have a great combination of academic and business working life backgrounds. The lecturers can relate to your businesses actual work experiences. The discussions which we participated in during the lecturers were also very useful and often fun.
Studying for my Executive MBA was challenging, but I would tell someone wanting to work in a similar field to use academic research to help you in your working environment. Just because something has been done a certain way for a long time, doesn’t make it the right way.
