Vanessa Katharina Siegl

Vanessa moved from Germany to study MSc Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering here at Wrexham Glyndwr.

What were you doing before coming to Wrexham Glyndwr University?

When I was 16, I started an apprenticeship to become an industry mechanic. After this I worked at the same company for 3 years. But it was not what I wanted to do, so I decided to attend the mechanical engineering school in Munich.

What attracted you to Wrexham Glyndwr University?

I wanted to do further education after the mechanical engineering and Brian advertise the Glyndwr University. Furthermore, I was interesting in an abroad education.

What’s the atmosphere like around campus?

It’s a really nice atmosphere on campus. The staff members help everyone and I’ve never had problems with anybody here.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

To learn new interesting stuff and to see how the UK people solve problem especially in the engineering sector. Plus I enjoy getting in touch with non German speaking teachers.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

To find an interesting job, where I can learn a lot for my future career. At the moment I do not know what kind of job I prefer to do.

What has the support been like?

Good. You can go to any staff member and ask him/her something. If they don’t know the answer, they can send you to the right person who will be able to help.

How do you think you have benefited from studying at Wrexham Glyndwr University?

I would say I’ve benefitted the most by improving my English skills and having the opportunity to work on big projects, like the bachelor and master thesis. But I’ve also gained new knowledge in maths, management, CFD and teamwork.

If you were to sum up your experience at Wrexham Glyndwr University in one word what would it be and why?

Great. It’s been a great experience and completely different to what I did before - studying abroad, new people, different language, different culture... I would recommend it to anybody. It will definitely help for my future career.
