What were you doing before coming to Wrexham Glyndwr University?

I was working full time at TATA Steel Shotton, undertaking their graduate scheme as a recent graduate in Engineering from Cardiff University.

What attracted you to Wrexham Glyndwr University?

Glyndwr had a multitude of potential MSc options that I could take which were relevant to my current field of work. It is situated in a good location for me to get to on a day release basis. The course prices were very reasonable for what I was hoping to achieve which was a major factor in encouraging my employer to allow me to further develop my engineering understanding.

What’s the atmosphere like around campus?

I have found the other students on campus very friendly and I have always been made to feel very welcome. The staff at various parts of the campus have always been friendly and very helpful, from the tea ladies to the lecturers.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

I have enjoyed the fact that the class sizes have been very intimate, which has allowed good discussions to take place in all lectures and a strong comradery has been built with everyone helping each other to succeed.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

Once I graduate I will continue working at TATA Steel and will be able to become a chartered engineer with my master’s level of education and my experience. I am hoping to use some of my newly found engineering skills in my work.

What has the support been like?

I have always been able to find help if required, with most lecturers going above and beyond their call of duty to help in any way they can.

How do you think you have benefited from studying at Wrexham Glyndwr University?

I think Glyndwr has developed a more practical side to my engineering skills, as previously I was more subjected to the theory with out any application. The availability of the workshops, the design packages and other facilities, has given me a stronger string to my bow.

If you were to sum up your experience at Wrexham Glyndwr University in one word what would it be and why?

Confident. From day one the tutors have instilled a level of confidence in me that I did not have before, I have been encouraged and developed from day one and feel good about my academic abilities with my results strongly showing my new found confidence..
