What were you doing before coming to Wrexham Glyndwr University?
I was working full-time in Scottish Power while Studying an Access to HE course at Coleg Cambria in the evening.
What attracted you to Wrexham Glyndwr University?
Proximity to my home and a course which offered criminology and criminal justice together.
What’s the atmosphere like around campus?
It’s unique- different to other universities I have visited. It feels tightknit and friendly.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
I loved every module! I really enjoyed completing my research module. Allowing me to choose a subject of particular interest to me and explore my own ideas. Interviewing friends, family and colleagues to determine public perception of female criminality was fascinating.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
My dream job would be to work for the police as a civil investigator.
What has the support been like?
The support and encouragement I received from my research supervisor was fantastic! She guided me and pushed me to produce my best work.
The support and help you get from the staff in the library is great, nothing is ever too much hassle. If they can’t help you then they will point you in the right direction. They go above and beyond to get you an answer, find you a book or fix issues with your laptop.
How do you think you have benefited from studying at Wrexham Glyndwr University?
Broaden my horizons! Meeting new people, whether that is fellow students, staff or guest speakers, has expanded my network. Jobs and opportunities I was previously never aware of are now available for me to take advantage of.
If you were to sum up your experience at Wrexham Glyndwr University in one word what would it be and why?
Transformative. Attending university has completely changed the way I view the world. I am now much more objective in my opinions. I never thought that I would be able to complete a degree and progress onto a Masters. My confidence and self-belief has increased since starting uni and has led to me exploring and pursuing more opportunities. Glyndŵr University also supported me through my studies by allowing me to become a Student Ambassador and earn while I studied.
