BSc (Hons) Construction Management 3rd year
What were you doing before coming to Wrexham Glyndwr University?
Before I started Uni, I was working as a joiner for a housebuilder.
What attracted you to Wrexham Glyndwr University?
I liked the fact that WGU was on my doorstep, and that they would accept students based on their experience not just on a UCAS point system.
Did you attend an open day? What were your impressions?
Good, it was a nice welcoming, exciting atmosphere.
Was it helpful?
It was, while I was there, I spoke to my lecturers who told me that a full-time course was only two days a week and I would be done in three years instead of five. I then spoke to the student financial advice team who helped me find out about what funding was available and the best ways of applying for finance.
What’s the atmosphere like around campus?
It is a vibrant and friendly atmosphere.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
I am a bit of a geek, so I do enjoy writing my assignments! I also enjoy learning about a subject that I am very passionate about and using the knowledge I have gained in my work.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
I am already working as an Assistant Site Manager on a construction site the three days a week I am not in Uni, so I would like to progress to Site Manager and then to Project or Contracts Manager.
What has the support been like?
The support has been great, my lecturers are always willing to answer questions, or go over things.
How do you think you have benefited from studying at Wrexham Glyndwr University?
If I hadn’t started doing my degree, I certainly wouldn’t have got the job I am doing now, it has also made me believe in myself a lot more.
If you were to sum up your experience at Wrexham Glyndwr University in one word what would it be and why?
Insightful, my time at Glyndwr has given me a much deeper and broader understanding of the industry in which I am going to pursue a career.
