Mike’s original background is in History. He gained both his BA and his doctorate at the University of Birmingham, and published a string of articles in academic journals and anthologies on his main research topic: crime and the legal profession in eighteenth-century England.

He gained his teaching certificate in 1982, and after a long career in education management he left to pursue his interest in creative writing. He has sold work both to the BBC and Channel 4 and is close to finishing two novels, each with a historical theme.

Contemporary fiction is also an interest and he plans to write a modern version of Oliver Twist. His writing has impressed an eminent London literary agent who now handles his work on the open market.

Prior to joining Wrexham Glyndwr University, Mike was head of English at Shrewsbury College.

Mike joined the Humanities Department at Wrexham Glynd┼Ár University in 2004 and divides his time between teaching and writing.
