Liz Cade

Senior Lecturer and Placement tutor

Staff Profile

Liz Cade

Room: M408

+44 (0) 1978 293549

Liz qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1987 and worked clinically with Liverpool and Wirral Health Authorities within physical and mental health settings. In 1989 her role moved into social care, working for Wirral Borough Council for 14 years and with Cheshire County Council until moving into an education role.

Her area of clinical expertise is with individuals who have a long-term disability and in facilitation of their independence primarily through housing adaptation, rehabilitation and equipment provision. The client group has complex needs due to chronic illness and benefit from the removal of barriers that prevent these individuals living safe and meaningful lives.

Liz always enjoyed taking students on placement whilst she was a clinician and in 2004 she embraced a lecturer practitioner role on the Occupational Therapy degree here at Wrexham Glynd┼Ár University. She took a full time post in education in 2006 and continues to have an instrumental role as the placement tutor for our students alongside her teaching role. This also involves developing new and diverse placement opportunities for our students to experience and inspire. Liz also embraces an external examiner role currently with Brunel University.

She has been involved in development of the Occupational Therapy programme since commencement in 2004 and feels privileged to be nurturing OT’s of the future. Liz commenced a Professional Doctorate in 2011 and is currently in the thesis module with research in role emerging placements, resilience and student attributes.

Do you have any hobbies?   Rural living and a passion for riding with her own horse Paddy who she competes with in the discipline of dressage. She also shares her busy life with husband, daughter, cocker spaniel and a smattering of chickens! She has travelled across the globe particularly loving South Africa and Peru.

Inspiring quote to make you think.? ‘Challenges are what make life interesting: overcoming them is what makes life meaningful’ (M Twain)
