Dr Jixin Yang received his BSc in Nanjing University (China) in 1996 and MSc in Chinese Academy of Sciences (Beijing) in 1999. Since then he studied his PhD at University of Nottingham on transient species in conventional and supercritical fluid solutions by time-resolved infrared spectroscopy. 

After graduating in 2003, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Nottingham, focusing on the area of materials chemistry.

Dr Yang took the academic position at Glyndwr University in 2009. Now he is actively involved in undergraduate/postgraduate teaching and research in material chemistry.

He has published 26 research papers so far in peer-reviewed journals.  Dr Yang is Charted Chemist (CChem), member of Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC) and fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA).   He is acting as a peer reviewer for a number of RSC journals.

What are your hobbies/interests?  I have a quite wide range of interests but do not always have time to pursue most of them due to the work commitments.  If I have to name one, it is chess.  I am not a bad amateur player and currently I am the manager of several Cheshire and North Wales junior chess teams.

What’s your favourite animal?  Cat and fortunately we have one at home.

What’s your favourite book?  Among the books in English, it is The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy.

Inspirational quotes? “Do tomorrow’s things today and do more things tomorrow.” and “Seek hope in despair and your life will be splendid.” (Both by Chinese educator and philosopher Minhong Yu)

What’s your favourite film? Dead Man's Shoes by Shane Meadows.

Which career would you choose to go into if you weren’t in this job?  Medical doctor.

Dr Yang’s principal research interests and expertises lie in the fields of metal nanoparticles, semiconductor materials, polymer nanocomposites, supercritical fluids and green chemistry.
