Following an early career in housing management and development Jane worked as a research associate for the University of Cardiff, and subsequently as a lecturer in Housing and Planning at John Moores University before taking up a post as Programme leader for Housing Studies here at Glyndwr University.

She maintains contact with practice as a non-executive director of a Housing Association. She has close contact with her professional body the Chartered Institute of Housing and has served as Chair of the Wales Committee as well as being Membership and Education Officer.
