Following a BSc degree in mathematics, Gareth undertook a PhD in acoustics using finite element methods.  For several years he was a lecturer in Mathematics at Bangor University, then a research fellow with the Wales Institute of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at Cardiff University, then a senior lecturer in mathematics at Chester University, and finally his present position as a senior research fellow in the ESO E-ELT group at OpTIC Glyndŵr at St Asaph.

Gareth have used a wide variety of numerical techniques to model physical processes in computational fluid dynamics (including viscoelastic fluids), basin modelling and micromagnetics.

His previous work has been sponsored by Shell Research, EPSRC, EU (Framework 5 IHP), HEFCW, TTL(TCS) and DTI( KTP), LMS and BC.
