Physiotherapy – An Introduction to the Profession
The student will be introduced to some of the key concepts related to current physiotherapy practice, the role of the physiotherapist and wider issues associated with delivering physiotherapy in contemporary health and social care systems.
The module aims to provide those considering studying physiotherapy with an insight into the beliefs and philosophy of the profession.
What will you study?
This short course is intended to support potential applicants in three key areas:
- To gain a better insight into the role of a physiotherapist as often applicant have a perception that they will be ‘supporting elite sports teams’ and have never considered the more common areas of practice such as health and social care.
- To increase the applicants’ opportunity to perform well, in application to, and interview for, places on physiotherapy programmes as the knowledge they will gain will support that endeavour.
- To act a source of recent academic study) for applicants who have not studied in the last 5 years (Physiotherapy BSc (Hons) application requirements).
The course will run for 10 weeks, Monday evenings, 5.30pm-8.30pm.
The assessment will comprise of two activities, students will complete an online multiple-choice test of key concepts and a 1500-word, reflective piece on why they wanted to be a physiotherapist and how their views have changed and developed as a result of the module.
