Notorious Crimes and Criminals


This course will look at the heart of contemporary debates about the operation of criminal justice in England and Wales.

You will study ten notorious crimes and criminals, such as; the Yorkshire Ripper, Myra Hindley, Timothy Evans, John Worboys and more.

The course will look at how these notorious cases have framed debates about criminal justice. You will gain an understanding of how crimes may be investigated and of the possible aims of sentencing. The course will also allow you to identify groups who may be vulnerable to crime and victimisation.
