Intro to Music Production
This short course will introduce students to the recording process through a series of practical lectures and workshops, in a professional studio environment. This course will enable students to determine the factors that define high quality in modern music production and to display an understanding of the technical and creative aspects of music production.
Students will work individually as well as part of a group and will experience the various roles in the production process. The course will illustrate the strengths and limitations of technology in the context of music production and will enable students to appreciate the factors that limit the effectiveness of technology.
What will you study?
This course will take students through the entire production process; pre-production, the recording session, post-production and preparing the final product.
It will cover:
- Introduction to the studio environment
- Interconnections and Gain
- Microphone Techniques
- Analogue Recording
- Digital Recording
- Dynamics Processing (ProTools)
- Time-based effects (ProTools)
- Mastering and Final Product
The course will run for 10 weeks (Tuesdays) commencing on the following dates:
4th June 6-8pm
Centre for Creative Industries Building
Students will be assessed through a portfolio created throughout the course that demonstrates the key skills and attributes delivered in the lecture/workshop series.
