What you need to know before applying
You’ll need to provide us with two academic references concerning your ability and fitness to conduct research. Please ensure that you have approached your academic referees before nominating them and advise that we will contact them directly. Your referees must not be members of your proposed supervisory team.
Please note that references are an integral part of the process and applications will not be progressed without them.
Should you decide to apply for entry to a Research Degree Programme, at this level of study, the University will need to consider carefully whether there is adequate supervision and resources for your proposed area of study. As a Postgraduate Research student you will be required to have a Supervisory Team of at least two academic staff members; at least one of whom will be a subject specialist in your proposed area of research. Please note that referees should not be proposed as members of your Supervisory Team and references should be dated, and no more than 12 months old.
During the online application process, you’ll be asked to provide the names and email addresses of your proposed Supervisory Team. Therefore, prior to starting the process it is recommended that you make contact with the relevant University Research Centre or known academic contact to ascertain whether there is interest in your proposed research project, and that the University has the resources for your area of study.
You may also find it helpful to arrange a number of conversations with your proposed Supervisory Team to ensure that you are ready to undertake the application process.
If there is interest in your proposed research project and the University has the resources for your area of study, you will be invited to attend an interview. If you have any accessibility requirements or other relevant needs required for the interview, please let us know so that appropriate arrangements can be made before you arrive.
If admission is recommended following the interview, and subject to verification of academic references, there will be an approval process required by Wrexham Glyndŵr University’s Research Degrees Sub-Committee (URDSubC) and the University of Chester.
