To be eligible to apply for an MPhil or MPhil with possible transfer to PhD, applicants should normally:
Possess or expect to obtain an Honours degree from a recognised Higher Education Institution, normally with at least upper second class honours (2:1), or a Masters qualification, or an academic or professional qualification which the University deems to be equivalent. Please note that we will not be able to progress an unconditional offer for the programme without a final, official transcript of results.
Demonstrate competence in the use of the English language. A minimum IELTS Score of 6.5 overall at entry with no less than 6.0 in any component is required for students whose first language is not English or Welsh. Candidates will be asked to provide evidence of their IELTS certificate prior to admission. International applicants whose most recent qualification has been taken in English may be exempt from our usual English Language requirements
Provide two satisfactory academic references, concerning your ability and fitness to conduct research. Ensure that you have approached your academic referees before nominating them and advise that we will contact them directly; your referees must not also be members of your proposed supervisory team. Please note that references are an integral part of the process and applications will not be progressed without them; this can sometimes cause delays.
Applicants who do not fulfil the normal entry criteria may be required to provide additional information and documentation in support of their application.
The two set intake points per academic year are September and February.
