tuition fee loans for part time students

tuition fee loans for part time students

If you’re a new part-time student you may be able to apply for a Tuition Fee Loan from the government to cover the cost of tuition.

As with full-time students you only start to repay this as a graduate earning over £25,000.

Key Facts

  • Repayments of the tuition fee loan will be 9% of income over £25,000.
  • The money goes directly from the Student Loans Company to the University.  You have to pay it back.
  • The tuition fee loan is not available for postgraduate students, but there is a bursary for students living in Wales subject to terms and conditions.
  • Eligible students from Wales can apply for a loan of up to £2,625.
  • After 30 years any remaining debt is written off.

Eligibility

You must be:

  • studying at undergraduate level for the first time (you haven’t been to university before and don’t already have an undergraduate or equivalent level qualification)
  • doing a minimum of 25% of a full-time course or modules worth 30 credits a year
  • classified as a Home or EU student*

*Government funding regulations state that Home/EU/overseas status is dependent on nationality and residence – see www.gov.uk/studentfinance.
