Entry requirements

If you’re currently studying the Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife ( Abitur ) then we would look for a minimum GPA of 2.9 for entry onto the 1st year of one of our degree programmes.  In addition to your GPA, we’d look for grade 10s in required subjects. These required subjects would depend on the course you’re applying to study with us.

The Fachgebundene Hochschulreife /Fachhochschulreife and the Berufsakademien Diplom (Diplom- BA) are also considered for entry onto our undergraduate programmes.

If you’re studying the Staatlich geprüfter Techniker (State Certified Technician) qualification, then you may be able to complete a Hons degree with us in just 1 year. The State Certified Technician qualification allows entry firstly onto our Summer School and then onto the 3rd year of one of our Engineering or Computing degrees (please note that if you wish to study Computing you may not need to complete our Summer School to receive a Hons degree in one year).

For taught Postgraduate, applicants who hold the Magister Artium, the Diplom or the Erstes Staatsexamen (First State Examination) will all be considered. We’d look for an overall grade of 3.0 or above or Befriedigend (or higher).

For all levels of study, we’d also look for evidence of your English language ability. If you’ve taken an IELTS test, we’d look for:

  • Undergraduate – 6.0 overall, with no band below 6.0. Individual bands score of 0.5 below this required total may be considered.
  • Postgraduate – 6.5 overall with no band below 6.5. Individual band scores of 0.5 below this required total may be considered.

If you’ve taken another approved English language test, please contact us. Alternatively, we’d accept a grade of 10 or above in the English language component of the Abitur when taken as an achievement/main or intensive subject.
