Entry & English Language Requirements

Entry & English Language Requirements

Listed below are the University’s general entry requirements for students from Europe. Applicants should note that these are a guide and that all applications are considered on an individual basis considering all parts of the application, including the personal statement and reference. In addition to the qualifications listed, all applicants need to demonstrate English language proficiency.

Please ensure you send clear scanned copies of your transcripts/certificates to admissions@glyndwr.ac.uk, quoting your UCAS PID (or after submitting our online direct application form if applying for postgraduate or part-time study). Please supply documents in the original language, along with translated versions where possible.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

For those studying the International Baccalaureate, we require a minimum of 28 points overall, with any required subjects studied at Higher Level for undergraduate study. We will also consider applications on an individual basis where certificates have been awarded rather than the diploma.

European Baccalaureate (EB)

For those studying the European Baccalaureate, we require an overall 75%, with a minimum of 7.5 in any required subjects.

English language

If your native language is not English you will need to demonstrate English language proficiency. For undergraduate study, if you’ve taken an IELTS test, we’d look for 6.0 overall, with no band below 5.5.  Alternatively we accept a minimum of 6/10 at Year 7 or 7.5 at Year 6 in English Language from the International Baccalaureate. For postgraduate study, IELTS with an overall score of 6.5 with no band below 6.0 is required.

If within the last 5 years you have completed at least 2 years education entirely through the medium of English (and have the official academic evidence to support this claim) you may be exempt from having to take an IELTS or accepted equivalent.

Other English Language qualifications that may be acceptable for undergraduate study include Grade C or above from Cambridge English: Advanced/Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English, Cambridge English: Proficiency/Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English, Cambridge International GCSE English as a Second Language (extended curriculum) or GCSE English or iGCSE English; 50 points from Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic; or a Level 2 Pass from Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life.

If you’ve taken another approved English language test, please contact us for more details on what we look for. If you wish to take the IELTS exam locally, exams can be sat in Wrexham (at Coleg Cambria). Liverpool University is also an IELTS exam centre.
