Returning to education

As ex-armed forces personnel, we recognise that your background may be quite different to that of an 18 year old school leaver who is entering university through the traditional route.

Entry requirements vary by course and whilst any formal qualifications that you have will be taken into consideration, we understand that you are also likely to have acquired a wide variety of transferable skills throughout your forces career which are still invaluable in the civilian world.

At Wrexham Glyndwr all applicants are assessed on individual merit, so we will also look at relevant skills and experience when considering your application.  Your personal statement also gives you an opportunity to highlight how your experiences will add value to your study as well as showcasing your willingness and enthusiasm to gain your degree and be a part of the university.

Access routes

Depending on your situation and the course you wish to study, you may want to consider look at different access routes, such as a Higher Education Access course or one of our foundation year degrees.  You can find more information about access routes here.

Financing your studies

If you are returning to education, you may still be able to apply for student finance, in the form of a student loan.  The amount you get will depend on your family situation and the type of course you wish to study.  You may be able to get extra help if you have children.
For more information visit our fees and finance pages.

As a service leaver, you may be entitled to funding under the Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Service (ELCAS).
This MOD-supported scheme promoted lifelong learning amongst current and ex-members of the Armed Forces, and is designed to help you with the cost of higher-level learning by providing you financial support in the form of a single up-front each year, for a maximum of three years.
You can find more information on the ELCAS website.
