Glyndŵr University nurse education team shortlisted for national award

18 April 2012
A team of nursing lecturers at Glyndŵr University have been shortlisted for a national award – thanks to the support of their own students.

The nurse education team at Glyndŵr University have been nominated by their own students for a prize at the first  annual awards scheme run by the Nursing Times, the most popular sector magazine for the nursing profession in the UK.

The team has now been shortlisted with counterparts from the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Stirling and the University of Southampton for the title of Nurse Education Provider (Preregistration) of the Year within the Student Nursing Times Awards 2012.

The award recognises outstanding teaching, support and career advice provided to students studying to become nurses in the UK.

Feedback given by 20 students at each university will determine which team receives the award at a London ceremony on Tuesday 1 May.

Professor Chris Lewis, Dean of Glyndŵr University’s Institute for Health, Medical Sciences and Society, said: “This is a splendid achievement and evidences the continual effort the team make to enhance further all aspects of the Bachelor of Nursing Honours programme.

“Glyndŵr already has a strong local reputation in the preparation for employment of its nurse graduates, and the nurse education team have great pride in their nursing graduates who go on to be the knowledgeable, skilful, compassionate and patient centred nurses so vital in the health care system of today.”

The Student Nursing Times Awards were created to recognise achievements in nurse education. Other categories in the inaugural awards scheme include lecturer of the year, mentor of the year, student nurse of the year and teaching innovation of the year.
