Community football in North East Wales has received a boost through university sponsorship.
Glyndŵr University Sport is supporting the Racecourse Foundation, based at the Glyndŵr University Racecourse Stadium.
A partnership between the Foundation and Glyndŵr University Sport has led to the provision of new equipment and staff.
Anna-Marie Brown, university sports facilities manager and a trustee of the foundation said: “Glyndŵr University Sport is delighted to be sponsoring the Racecourse Foundation.
“We bought all the kit that was required, to the tune of £800, and have also supported the expansion of staffing at the Foundation, as well as relocating them to more suitable, larger facilities under the University Stand (formerly the Eric Roberts Stand).
“New women and girl’s development officer Louise Crowhurst is a Glyndŵr University graduate, as is boys’ development officer Tony Merola. North East Wales development officer is set to do an MRes in sport and exercise science.
“We are actively encouraging the development of community football in North East Wales, and are investigating through the FAW Trust and other partners the possibility of developing community football adjacent to the stadium.”
