Sporting students given university awards

8 December 2011

STUDENTS with a talent for sport have been given help to achieve their potential.

A number of Glyndŵr University students have been awarded scholarships and bursaries in recognition of their outstanding achievements in sports including football, basketball and athletics.

They gathered on Thursday (December 8) at the Glyndŵr University Racecourse Stadium for a luncheon in recognition of their success.

University Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Allan Howells congratulated the students on their efforts.

Speaking at the event, he said: “I am delighted to be here to meet you all and to recognise the contribution you make both to your sports and to the university as whole.”

Among those supported by the university through a scholarship is karate champion Colin Le Maitre.

Forensic science student Colin, from Denbigh, said: “The financial assistance the scholarship offers is a big help to me.

“Without it I would not be able to compete during the time I am at university.”
