Official launch of Wrexham Village accommodation phase two
9 December 2011
The completion of a £40m student accommodation complex in Wrexham has been marked by an official opening.
The second phase of Wrexham Village at the Glyndŵr University Racecourse Stadium houses 167 students and will be known as the Erddig block.
It was completed in just 12 months, allowing students to move in to rooms in time for the new academic year.
With all rooms at the complex now occupied, Wrexham Village is home to more than 300 Glyndŵr University students.
Phase one of the complex, which houses 156 students, was opened by Lesley Griffiths AM in September 2010.
Wrexham Village is the result of a partnership between the facility’s owners, Wrexham Village Ltd and Glyndŵr University.
Professor Michael Scott, Vice-Chancellor of Glyndŵr University, unveiled a plaque alongside Wrexham Village owners Geoff Moss and Ian Roberts to mark the opening.
Professor Scott said: “This is a wonderful student residence and because of the first phase which opened last year it’s already got a reputation for Glyndŵr University for the quality of the rooms. And this block has an added function in that from a number of windows students can watch the football!
“I am delighted about the ownership of Wrexham Village, the quality of the building, the comfort and the excellent feedback about it which we’re getting from students.”
Mr Roberts said: “We’re delighted to have worked in partnership to ensure provision of modern, energy-efficient accommodation that fulfils the needs of Glyndŵr University and its students.
“I hope that Wrexham Village will become an iconic building which everyone connected with the town can feel proud of.”
