Glyndŵr University students prepare for Hollywood glitz and glamour end-of-year finale
Final year students on Glyndwr University’s Media Communications course have been invading the campus library.
The group were adopting guerrilla-marketing techniques to promote this year’s student ball.
Dressed to coincide with this year’s theme of Hollywood Glitz and Glamour the students made loud hailer announcements in the library as well as creating a ‘living window’ in the library foyer to sell tickets to passing students.
Between them the students have written and designed posters, tickets and planned their own marketing campaign to ensure ticket sales are high.
The ball will be held at the William Aston Hall on Friday 28 May and is expected to attract up to 1,000 students.
The idea to involve students in the marketing and public relations aspects of the event planning is part of the university’s drive to ensure students are well prepared for employment and helps them to develop creativity to transfer to the work place.
Media Communications Course tutor Sally Harrison said: “This has been an ideal opportunity for our students to develop their own creative ideas and apply them to a real life promotional campaign for this summer’s ball.”
Lynda Powell, Head of Commercial Services at Glyndŵr University, said: “In the current economic climate the pressure is on these students to ensure ticket sales are high enough to make the whole event financially viable.
"From the initial brief they were given they were aware of the need to make the 2010 summer ball financially viable and having to balance that against their highly creative ideas for the event.”
It was also a good day for student Kehinde Frank Isewon who won £100 after taking part in the on-line vote to choose this year’s theme for the event.
Tickets for the Hollywood Glitz and Glamour event are £15 each, available from the student campus or online.
