Young entrepreneurs set to pitch their equine business ideas at north Wales racecourse

13 May 2010

Young entrepreneurs from north Wales will be pitching their business ideas in the unusual setting of Bangor-on-Dee racecourse.

Equestrian Psychology students from Glynd┼Ár University have been given the chance to develop, promote and sell their ideas for equine business products in a real-life environment at the north Wales racecourse on Saturday 15 May 2010.

They will be competing with fellow students from Yale College, Deeside College, Llandrillo College and Coleg Llysfasi for the chance to take their business idea to trade at the Chester Race course International Show Jumping event in July.

The winning business idea will also receive a cash prize kindly donated by Jones Bros of Ruthin, with the individuals behind the outstanding entry being handed free access to business start-up mentoring.

Mary Bradley, Head of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, said the event would help to stimulate new and exciting business start-up ideas for the equine and rural sectors.

The event is encouraging non equine students to explore business opportunities within equine and rural sectors. As well as entries from Equine departments, there will be entries from students studying floristry, hair/ beauty, photography and Travel/tourism.

Mary said: “Equine-preneurial represents a perfect opportunity for students to test their business ideas within their own and other industries.

"They’ll have a captive audience for their products – and a fantastic stage for developing their own business skills ahead of their entry into employment.”
