Radio station extends licence to 2023

OFCOM extends Calon FM license to 2023

We are pleased to announce that we have had our license extended and will continue broadcasting across Wrexham for a further five years.

Calon FM has been broadcasting across Wrexham since 2008 and will turn 10 years old in March.

In the past five years, Calon FM has been successful in winning 2 Radio Academy awards for Station of the Year for Wales in both 2013 & 2014.

In 2016 Calon FM also won 2 Bronze awards at the Community Radio Awards. The awards were for Community Development Project of the Year for a series of shows highlighting homelessness in Wrexham and also Live Event of the Year for Focus Wales Coverage.

The radio station hosts a diverse schedule of shows presented by people from across the Wrexham community.

In 2017, we were able to add live commentary of Wrexham AFC games to our schedule, which has been a huge boost for the station.

Station Editors Katherine Wade and Amy Hughes are thrilled with the news. “We want to thank our amazing family of volunteers, past and present, who work so hard with us to produce some great programming. Some of whom have gone on to great things. We look forward to welcoming lots of new faces from around Wrexham over the next 5 years”

Calon FM is a community radio station based on Mold Road, Wrexham. All content is presented and produced by a team of local volunteers.
