Wrexham Glyndwr University in UK top 20 for student satisfaction

26 April 2017

Students in Wrexham are among the most satisfied in the UK with their overall university experience.

Wrexham Glyndwr University ranked 16th in the country for student satisfaction in the Complete University Guide, released today (Wednesday).

It also has the second most satisfied Nursing and Education students in the UK, and the third most satisfied for History.

All three subjects have the best student satisfaction score in Wales, along with Complementary Medicine.

Professor Maria Hinfelaar, Vice-Chancellor of Wrexham Glyndwr University, said: “Creating the best student experience we can with a focus on personal attention is one of the key drivers for the University, so we are proud to see this reflected in the Complete University Guide results.

“Our ranking as one of the top 20 universities in the country for student satisfaction is excellent and a real testament to the hard work which all of our teaching and support staff put into delivering a quality experience for our students.”

Other notable achievements for the University in this year’s Complete University Guide include:

-          Accounting and Finance: 15th in the UK for student satisfaction

-          Building Studies: 10th in the UK for student satisfaction

-          Electrical and Electronic Engineering: 16th in the UK for satisfaction

-          Forensic Science: 6th in the UK for graduate prospects

Reflecting on the University’s overall performance in the league table, Professor Hinfelaar said: “Students at Wrexham Glyndwr University tell us that they value the quality of their experience. In the National Student Survey they gave us top marks for personal development and we saw a rise in overall satisfaction to 85%.

"We also have a track record for delivering courses which get people into jobs, as evidenced by our graduate level employability figure of more than 92%.

“We are always looking to improve the student experience and are currently undertaking a curriculum review to ensure our courses remain up-to-date with the demands of modern industry.

"A series of projects across the Wrexham campus will be rolled out this summer - starting with a £200,000 overhaul of catering facilities - and we are working closely with the Students’ Union.

“We are obviously disappointed with the overall Complete University Guide league table result but are confident that we will improve our position in the future, once such league tables have caught up with the enormous strides we have made in recent times.”

Dr Bernard Kingston, Chairman of, said: “It is 10 years since launched its online university league tables, and they have proved their accuracy, independence and robustness over the decade.”

Wrexham Glyndwr University was also shortlisted in the UK top 10 for courses and lecturers category in this year’s WhatUni Student Choice Awards.
