University's new degree helps shape the future decision makers on housing in UK

Real Estate

Wrexham Glyndwr University aims to be the leading educators on the future of housing in north Wales.

The institution launched a new degree in Real Estate last September with top industry professionals driving the programme.

The undergraduate Real Estate degree focuses on a range of topics giving graduates good grounding to pursue various career paths in estate management, estate agency, property development or in local authorities.

The Real Estate students will look at the future of housing in the UK, which in 2015 the government set a target to build one million new homes by 2020 - creating a growing demand in the industry for further educated property professionals,

Wrexham Glyndwr University Real Estate lecturer, David Cheesbrough, said: “At the beginning of the degree the first thing we ask our students is what do they think the future of housing in the UK will look like.

“It’s a core theme throughout our degree as we’re educating and developing the future decision makers on housing in this country.”

He added: “The future of the property industry is very exciting right now. We need to build, market and sell more and better homes and people with this degree can lead the way in helping to achieve this.”

The Wrexham institution is the only university in Wales offering the Real Estate BSc (Hons) degree and one of few in the whole of the UK.

The Real Estate degree covers built environment law, sustainable development and management for students to become property professionals and offers practical surveying experience and site visits in the region.

The lecturers come from various industry backgrounds including, property development, architecture and civil engineering.

Mr Cheesbrough added: “This course is aimed at anyone who has a keen interest in housing, planning or real estate.

“Even if you follow property development shows with Kirstie Allsop and Phil Spencer, this is the course for you.”

Mr Cheesbrough also teaches Construction Management at Wrexham Glyndwr University, which received 100 per cent satisfaction in Unistats for the quality of the course, teaching, IT resources and support from lecturers during the course.

Wrexham Glyndwr University recently achieved an employability figure of 92.1 per cent and is also above the sector average for graduate level employment, according to the latest Destination of Leavers Survey (DLHE) from the Higher Educations Statistics Agency (HESA).
