Student satisfaction and job prospects success for Glyndwr in new league table

Rankings

Wrexham Glyndŵr University has been ranked the best for graduate prospects and student satisfaction, in five course areas, in Wales.

The university was also ranked first in the UK for student satisfaction in Nursing, second in History and Sports Science and third for Materials Technology, in the newly-released Complete University Guide.

Those studying, Art and Design, Education, History, Nursing and Sports Science at Wrexham Glyndŵr University are the most satisfied students in Wales.

The league table also revealed students studying Art and Design, Building, Drama, Dance and Cinematics, Forensic Science and Nursing had the best graduate prospects in Wales.

The university was ranked 125th in UK overall but 58th for student satisfaction, 69th for graduate prospects and 45th for academic services spend.

New Wrexham Glyndŵr University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maria Hinfelaar, was delighted to see improvements in specific subject programmes but disappointed with the overall ranking.

“The University is emerging from a challenging period and the league table reflects that, but we are in a very different place now to 2014/15, we are making huge strides in every area,” she said.

“We have a new-look Board of Governors, a new Chancellor, a new Chair and a new management team, all firmly behind a strategy which will see us double student numbers by 2020 and significantly improve our financial position.

“The ship has been steadied over the last 18 months and the task now is to build, to create new opportunities and further enhance the experience of our students – that is our vision, our top priority.”

Professor Hinfelaar added: “I have no doubt we will see a rise in our league table position in the years to come as we work together to better not only the academic areas of the institution, but also the infrastructure and facilities on our campuses.

“The only way is up for Wrexham Glyndŵr, and I look forward to leading us there. Of course, it is going to be a journey with obstacles and battles, but we are prepared for that and currently working hard to lay the foundations for a bright future.”

Dr Bernard Kingston, principal author of The Complete University Guide, said the rankings are an “important source of information” for prospective students.

Simon Emmett, Chief Executive Officer of the Hotcourses Group, which acquired the Guide last year, added: “The CUG league tables follow close on the heels of the very different Whatuni Student Choice Awards. Both exist to help students make the right university choices.”

Wrexham Glyndŵr University was awarded 15th place in the UK in the Student Support category of the Whatuni Student Choice Awards earlier this month.
