Glyndwr university's Northop campus is opening its doors for a fun-filled Saturday

Northop open day

Wrexham Glyndwr University’s Northop campus is opening its doors to the community and future students to showcase the scenic site and its courses.

The Northop Nature Educational Day, on Saturday, September 10, will be a great opportunity for everyone to explore the site and find out more about its facilities and courses.

The university will also be hosting an Open Day at its main campus in Wrexham the same day with free shuttle buses to and from Northop.

The Flintshire educational day will involve woodland trails, talks and activities by Wild Life Trust, RSPB, Field Studies Council and Plas Derw Trust.

Professor David Skydmore, academic leader of Northop campus, said it’s a great opportunity to bring the community on-campus to experience what the university has to offer in a beautiful location.

He added: “The Northop campus of the university is a centre for rural and biological education, and a fantastic resource for Flintshire.

“We teach Wildlife and Animal Studies here, Plant Biology and Equine Studies. We are very much focused on the study of ecology and an appreciation of nature and our natural resources in Wales.

“This event will give an opportunity for everybody who is interested in nature and ecology an opportunity to see the campus, meet our staff and key conservation organisations in Wales as well as having a great time out in the countryside.”

Activities throughout the day will include den building, crafts, archery, falconry and opportunities to talk to staff and students about the facilities and courses offered at Northop.

One of the organisers, Pip Francis, said: “We will have talks, demonstrations and activities from a range of organisations throughout the day.
“It’s a great opportunity to come and explore our Northop campus, take a walk around its beautiful surroundings, learn about your local habitat and talk to our academics and students about the courses we offer.

“It will be a fun active day for all ages and hope to inspire people to get involved with nature.”

The university is also encouraging people interested in studying at the institute to visit their main campus for the open day.
