Glyndŵr University students will bring Christmas cheer to a charity supporting unemployed young women in Wrexham.

A group from the North Wales School of Business host a free Winter Wonderland Market in aid of the Moneypenny Foundation on Wednesday, December 2.

The second year Hospitality, Tourism and Event Management students have organised a Festive Shopping Event with stalls offering everything from handmade gifts and local produce to Christmas decorations and arts and crafts. Visitors can also enjoy mulled wine and mince pies, a grand raffle and entertainment.

Taking place at Moneypenny’s headquarters on Ellice Way, Wrexham, the event will raise cash and awareness of the Foundation, which gives unemployed young women new opportunities via paid work experience, life coaching, mentoring and a six-month traineeship for the chosen candidates.

Diane Aplin, Director of the Moneypenny Foundation, said: “This promises to be a great event and we are very grateful to all the Glyndŵr students and staff involved for supporting the work we do in this way.

“We work closely with the university in delivering the Foundation to our trainees so activities like this further cements that important link.

“We encourage as many people as possible to pop along on the day. There will be lots going on so it’s a perfect opportunity to do some early Christmas shopping.”

Programme Leader, Jacqueline Hughes-Lundy says the Winter Wonderland Market will give the students hands-on experience of coordinating and managing an event, as well as raising money for a good cause.

“You really can’t teach event management by just sitting in the lecture theatre; the students have to be hands-on and see for themselves what it’s like to succeed and fail so they can prepare themselves for the real world,” said Jacqueline.

Student Nadine Isaacs added: “We have been working hard to gather raffle prizes and have received a lot of support so far.

“We’ve got everything from meals to days out and even a valuable Manchester package, including a stay at the Historic Midland Hotel, with bowling, meals and cocktails at All Star Lanes, and many more prizes.

“We hope to see plenty of people there on the night and before then support us by buying raffle tickets.”

The Winter Wonderland Market runs from 5.30pm-8pm.
