Junior world rally star Osian Pryce visits Glyndŵr University
October 12 2015
Motor racing fans headed to Glyndŵr University to catch a glimpse of rising Junior World Rally Championship star Osian Pryce.
The 22-year-old driver from Machynlleth visited the Wrexham institution with his Citroen racing car as part of a tour of North and Mid Wales to promote the 2015 Wales Rally GB.
Students from Glyndŵr University’s performance car technology degree turned out in force, with a few of the more technical questions Osian faced during the five-day roadshow.
Osian said: “It was great to give the guys here a chance to see the car which I compete with and get some inspiration for the design of their own projects.
“The students obviously understand it all better than most and have probably asked more questions than anyone else who I’ve met on the tour.”
Olivier Durieux, senior lecturer in mechanical engineering, said the visit provided students with an opportunity to gain an insight into the world of rally.
He said: “It’s not very often we get stars of world rally at the university so we were delighted to welcome Osian here. Car design and performance is a key part of motorsport students’ degrees and the opportunity to have a close look at Osian’s Citroen Citroen DS3 R3T (Class 5) was invaluable.
“The visit, combined with our close proximity to Wales Rally GB, demonstrates that Glyndŵr University’s close links to industry remain as strong as ever.”
Osian began driving aged 12 and by 16 was competing at national level in rally championships. In 2011 he entered his first British Rally Championship and took ownership of his current car in 2012.
Wales Rally GB takes place from November 12 to 15 over 19 stages across Wales, with a ceremonial start in Llandudno and finish at Deeside Service Park, based at Deeside Industrial Estate.
