Broadcasting, Journalism and Media Communications student, Jamie Davies had the chance to mix with some of the world’s tennis legends as part of a star-studded work experience placement.
Jamie, pictured commentating far right, spent a week working with the Association of Tennis Professionals communications team covering the ATP Champions’ Tour at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
His week there included writing reports for the ATP website on the John McEnroe v Mats Wilander and Tim Henman v James Blake matches.
He also helped organise press conferences for the tennis stars and even took them onto court at the start of matches.
“It was a fantastic week, one of the best experiences ever and something I will cherish for the rest of my life,” said Jamie, 21.
During the week he spent time chatting with the tennis stars including John McEnroe who he described as “hilarious” and very focused as well as Tim Henman who was a “really down-to-earth and pleasant guy”.
Jamie grabbed the chance of the placement after chasing up contacts with the BBC who put him in touch with tennis commentator, David Law.
“It was a case of making the most of every contact and following up every possibility. The result was a fantastic week amongst some of the biggest names in worldwide professional tennis - awesome,”! he said.
