Graduates launch informal networking business

Two entrepreneurs who met over Twitter and discovered a mutual desire to put vibrancy into business networking are launching a new series of sessions for business – by using giant games.

‘Tandem - Business with Bounce’ is the brainchild of Glyndŵr University graduates Joanna Kinch, who runs The Regent business and conference venue in Wrexham, and Alice Murray, owner of Giggles and Games.

Joanna wanted to provide businesses in Wrexham with an alternative to traditional business networking at The Regent and found exactly what she was looking for when she discovered Alice’s business via a Tweet.

Starting on Friday 27 June, on the last Friday afternoon of each month The Regent will host ‘Tandem - Business with Bounce’ using some of the giant games which Alice provides through Giggles.

Joanna said: “I’ve organised lots of networking events over the last few years as treasurer for the Federation of Small Businesses but I stepped down from the role at the end of last year and I wanted to provide something for businesses that was informal and vibrant.

“I’d never met Alice before but spotted one of her tweets, exchanged emails and once we’d met up, Tandem grew from there.”

Alice, who started Giggles two years ago while studying a Business Management degree at Glyndŵr, said: “Although I started with weddings and children’s parties, my vision for Giggles was always to move it into the corporate sector so this is almost the perfect marriage.

“Both of us have a mutual view that traditional business networking can be a bit sterile so that’s something we are keen to avoid. We want something that’s really relaxing so the dress code is very informal.”

Originally from Wrexham, Joanna gained a BTEC in Business and Finance at Glyndŵr University’s predecessor, the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education, in 1992.

She then ran her own property development business in Plymouth, where she studied at the city’s university, before returning to her home town, where she ran Kinch Print for a number of years. Joanna started The Regent in August 2013.

“Alice and I have been completely honest from the outset about what our ideas our and what we want to achieve and that’s been key to getting Tandem - Business with Bounce up and running,” said Joanna. “Hopefully we can offer businesses in Wrexham something a little different – while still giving them the same benefits of a traditional networking session.

“There will be games, fun and some prizes on offer – we can’t wait to get it started.”

The first ‘Tandem - Business With Bounce’ takes place on Friday 27 June from 12.30pm to 2pm at The Regent Offices on Regent Street, Wrexham.

Tickets are priced £15 and include a drink on arrival and a buffet lunch. To book online visit tandem-events.eventbrite.com. For enquiries email info@tandembusiness.co.uk, or follow Alice and Joanna on Twitter @TandemBizGirls or Facebook ‘TANDEMBusinesswithBounce’.

Future dates for the Tandem Business with Bounce sessions are Friday 25 July; Friday 29 August and Friday 26 September.
