Bradley Wiggins signed shirt to be displayed in Cent Bar
A Team Sky cycling top signed by Sir Bradley Wiggins is to become the latest piece of sporting memorabilia to grace the walls of the Centenary Bar at the Glyndŵr University Racecourse Stadium.
The university’s Students’ Guild president Luke Murphy secured the prized possession while working as a volunteer at the Tour of Britain.
Hundreds turned out to catch a glimpse of Wiggins at the pro-cycling event as it passed through Wrexham last month on Stage Four of the 2013 route, from Stoke-on-Trent to Llanberis.
Luke, from a family with a proud cycling heritage, has been involved with the sport all his life and worked closely with the tour’s manager to support the successful running of the tour.
He said he was pleased to be able to donate such a significant gift to the university, where it can now be enjoyed by students and visitors alike for years to come.
Luke said: “The Tour of Britain has never passed through Wrexham before so it really was something to treasure for the whole town, and fantastically well supported.
“When I found out the tour was heading to this area, I jumped at the chance to be involved. Although the work was voluntary, it was quite tough, with a lot of early mornings and late nights, but it was well worth it.
“Sport is at the heart of university life and it’s great that the top will become a permanent fixture alongside the rest of the signed shirts and memorabilia in the Cent.”
