Biography

Professor Irvine's research interests cover deposition of thin film materials by Metal-organic Chemical Vapour Deposition (MOCVD), thin film solar cells and application of advanced thin film materials to the solar energy and opto-electronics industry. This research has led to the development of new optical in situ monitoring devices to measure growth rate, layers thickness and roughening of the growing films. This is being commercialised through the spin out of a successful company ORS Ltd (http://www.ors-ltd.com), based at Glyndŵr University St Asaph. The value of awarded grants to Professor Irvine’s group over the past six years has been in excess of £4M.
