Professor Richard Day
Professor of Composites Engineering
Richard originally graduated as a physicist from the University of London. He then moved to Bristol University where he studied the Physics of Materials. He returned to London to undertake a PhD in the stability of molecular electronic materials. On completing this he moved to the University of Manchester where he stayed for 23 years. His interests there spanned polymer engineering and composites. During his time at Manchester Richard was one of the founders of the northwest composites centre (NWCC) one of a network of regional composites centres around the UK. The NWCC was setup as a consortium of the northwest universities including Manchester, Liverpool, Lancaster and Bolton with a physical hub in Manchester. Later Glyndwr University joined the network. Professor Day moved to Glyndwr University in 2009. He is currently academic leader for Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering and associate director of the Graduate School. Glyndwr University has recently worked closely with Airbus to open a joint activity The Advanced Composites Training and Development Centre in Hawarden and Richard is closely involved in this.
