Professor Claire Taylor

Deputy Vice-Chancellor




Claire joined the University as Deputy Vice-Chancellor in August 2016. She is responsible for academic provision and the quality of student learning opportunities across the University, overseeing the work of: the Academic Schools; Strategic Planning; Communications, Marketing, Recruitment and Admissions; Academic Registry and the OpTIC Centre at St Asaph.

Claire read Music and Education at St Catharine's College, University of Cambridge and holds a PhD from the University of Nottingham. Her early career was as a primary school teacher, before becoming a headteacher and later moving into HE, where she has held a variety of senior roles including Dean of Students and Academic Engagement at Bishop Grosseteste University, Lincoln and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Strategy) at St Mary’s University, London.

Claire is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PFHEA), a Fellow of the Staff and Educational Developers Association (FSEDA) and a Life Fellow of Bishop Grosseteste University. She is a member of HEFCW’s Student Opportunity and Achievement Committee, the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education (LFHE) Membership Advisory Group and the editorial board of ‘Educational Developments’, SEDA’s professional publication.
