Glyndŵr University is one of the youngest and fastest-growing universities in the UK. Yet with roots dating back to 1887, we have been at the forefront of higher education provision in north east Wales for the past 125 years.

As we look to the future, we remain as committed as ever to raising the aspirations of our students and communities, and to our role in the social and economic development of north Wales. However, we cannot do this alone.

Fundraising is crucial to strengthening our position and ensuring our future. Glyndŵr Giving is your opportunity to help us to ensure that we continue to achieve excellence and make a difference in everything we do, and to help us safeguard higher education provision in the region for the next 125 years and beyond.

Why donate to Glyndŵr University?

Universities change lives. Through academic excellence, research and innovation they not only change individual lives, but tackle society’s most pressing issues, from health, wellbeing and the environment, to the economy and social justice – there is no one that they do not touch.

Glyndŵr University believes in people’s potential and in opening up university life to all, whether it’s people visiting the campus to use our facilities or those who decide to study here. We don’t believe that there should be barriers to people, or communities, fulfilling their potential.

There has never been a better time to support the University. Charitable support from alumni, staff, students, businesses and friends is crucial.

The donations we receive do not replace government funding, but enable projects and activities that wouldn’t otherwise go ahead. Your donation can really change lives, from student bursaries and equipment, to helping fund research and innovation.

Whatever your connection to Glyndŵr University, you can make a difference to current and future generations of students. Your donations, large or small, can help us to support the nurses, engineers, artists, broadcasters, journalists, architects, and business people of the future.

Fundraising priorities

Our fundraising activities are divided into four key priority areas that encompass all aspects of Glyndŵr University, giving you the opportunity to identify and support a cause that appeals to you. Once you decide to donate to Glyndŵr University you will be given the option of selecting a specific area for your donation to go towards:

Campus development

With campuses in Wrexham, Northop, St Asaph and London, Glyndŵr University has a wide range of specialist facilities which are the envy of the region, and reveal its wealth of expertise. Fundraising for campus development is crucial to maintaining and expanding these facilities, which are used by students, industrial partners and the public.

Academic excellence

Glyndŵr University believes in the far-reaching implications of excellence in teaching, research and innovation, both on individuals and on society as a whole. Fundraising can help ensure that we continue to provide academic excellence and cutting-edge solutions to emerging industrial demands.

Student experience

Glyndŵr University is committed to ensuring that everyone who has the potential to achieve in higher education is given the chance to do so, irrespective of age, gender, disability, sexuality, race or social background, and to ensuring that all students have access to the best possible support and facilities during their time at the University.

Community engagement

Glyndŵr University recognises that it plays a key role in its local communities, and it is committed to improving the opportunities available to them, from providing access to world-class facilities to developing a culture of education and learning.

From time to time specific projects and opportunities will arise, such as a capital build, and the University is also committed to fundraising for these specific projects if there is a strong business case for doing so.

The money

  • The university makes up to £9,000 per student, per year, which sustains all the university’s activity.
  • The university is funded by the Welsh Government.
  • The university makes considerable income from its research projects. For example, the European-Extra-Large Telescope will see €5million coming into the university.

  • The university receives around £7,000 per student full time undergraduate student and a much smaller fee income from part time activities.
  •  Welsh Government funding is a very small percentage of income now the new fee regime is in place.
  • The university is a registered charity. Money generated by the university is invested in the services the University provides – to students, research, the community and workforce development. Surplus is NOT given in dividends but reinvested into the University.
  • All donations received are ring-fenced and used only on the specified activities and projects promoted by fundraising the money is not used for core activities.
