Carbon meets Silicon II Symposium

Tuesday 12 September 2017, 10am - 6.30pm

Wrexham Glyndwr University

Carbon Meets Silicon 2017 at Wrexham Glyndwr University will feature live performances, lectures and workshops exploring the relationship between the two subjects.

Sponsored by the North Wales Branch of the British Science Association, the event will ask questions such as: How is science changing the arts? What can artists and scientists achieve together which they cannot achieve alone? Where does science end and art begin?

Leading minds from around the world will be contributing to the debate, including Professor David Dobson, Scientist in Residence at the Slade School of Art; the internationally renowned artists Marlena Novack and Jay Alan Yim; and a key note lecture from Professor Andy Miah, Chair in Science Communication & Future Media at the University of Salford.

Carbon Meets Silicon 2017 will launch with a free opening event at 6pm on Monday 11 September, featuring live interactive performances, followed by a full day of lectures, demonstrations and discussions at the Carbon Meets Silicon Symposium, closing with Professor Miah’s keynote lecture on Tuesday 12 September.

Co-organiser of the event, Mike Corcoran, said: “Many see the arts and sciences as worlds apart, but for me, they have always been two sides of the same coin.

“The greatest scientists are those with a curious, open mind, who take risks, push boundaries, and ask the question that have never been asked before.

“The same is just as true of the greatest artists. At Carbon Meets Silicon, we’re bringing these worlds together to explore the points where they meet, and the exciting new directions that research takes when they do.

“We’re thrilled to have such an incredible line up of exhibitors and speakers from around the world coming to Wrexham, and can’t wait to welcome our visitors to what should be a fascinating event.”

Tickets to the full Carbon Meets Silicon Symposium are £22 and available here.

No booking is required for the Carbon Meets Silicon Launch event, and a limited number of tickets to the key note lecture only are also available free of charge.
