This Web site aims to comply with major Web and accessibility standards, reflecting Government legislation such as the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001; these standards include valid Mark-Up (XHTML 1.0), Stylesheets (CSS2) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), as defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This page describes the various accessibility tools utilized on the Glyndwr University Website. Key information includes browser compatibility, accessibility tools such as text enhancement and background colour modification, the use and function of short cut keys, screen resolution and colour style.

About the Site

The aim of this site is to promote Glyndwr University to prospective students and provide support, information and guidance to members of the public, current students, parents and members of staff.

Glyndwr University website has been designed to be as accessible to as many users as possible, the pages have been optimized to be best viewed with your screen resolution set to 1024x768 pixels and using browsers Internet Explorer (version 6 or above), Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Netscape Navigator or Opera. To get the best from the colour images contained on these pages we recommend you view with a colour depth greater than 256 colours.

Navigating the Site

The site can be navigated in the following ways:

  • Using the navigation menu on the left to link to the main content sections on the site, such as the Courses and Fees and Student support section
  • Using the Current Students/Staff to switch between the University website and the University Intranet 
  • Using the right hand menu to view information on events, news and selection of quick links within the website umbrella.

Accessibility Advice

Glyndŵr University is constantly looking at increasing the accessibility of its pages to match a greater target audience.

The design of our website includes a number of accessibility features including:

  • Access Keys (browser driven) – Alt Back arrow – Goes back one page etc. Ctrl + and Ctrl – zooms the page in and out.
  • The ability to change the font size and background colour of the web pages via buttons located in the top left hand side of the page just below the banner.

Browser Accessibility Options

Controlling text and colours in your web browser

You can specify the  styles and colors, font sizes, and foreground and background colors of Web pages displayed on your computer screen, even if the author of the Web page has already specified these using style sheets. You can also specify the color used to indicate links in Web pages, or a special color for links that is used only when the mouse passes over the link.

This is useful if you have low vision, need larger fonts, or need high-contrast colors. You can set Internet Explorer to use the colors and fonts you specify, your default Windows colors and fonts, or the settings you specify in your own style sheet.

If you use the Internet Explorer or Netscape browsers to view the Internet, the following guidelines will enable you to enlarge the size of the text and control the colours on your screen.

Microsoft Internet Explorer for PC

  • Open your Internet Explorer Web Browser.
  • Select 'Tools' from the menu at the top of your window.
  • From the options which appear, select 'Internet options...'.
  • Click on the 'General' tab.
  • Click on the button marked 'Accessibility'.
  • To change your font size, select the checkbox marked 'Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages'.
  • To remove background and font colours, select the checkbox marked 'Ignore colours specified on web pages'.
  • Click OK (and again if necessary).
  • Select 'View' from the menu at the top of your window.
  • From the options which appear, select 'Text Size'.
  • Select your desired text size.

 

Microsoft Internet Explorer for Apple Mac

  • Open your Internet Explorer Web Browser.
  • Select the "edit" menu at the top of your window.
  • From the options menu which appears, select "preferences".
  • Click on "web content".
  • Deselect the button marked "show style sheets".
  • Return to the list of preferences.
  • Click on "web browser".
  • Select "language/fonts".
  • Select the font size you require.
