COURSE OUTLINE AND SCHEDULE

In this first year foundation module we will introduce some of the basic concepts, skills and perspectives required for the study of the media, predominantly film and television. It complements to work undertaken on the Approaches to Literature course taken in Year One, extending your knowledge and application of critical strategies and applying them to a wide range of texts traditionally viewed as being outside of the territory of "Literature". It is also designed to complement the M1 Media option, which is more concerned with the social, historical and political dimensions to media forms and institutions, although the course does not assume that you are also taking M1. Finally, this course will prepare you for Media work in Year Two, on Media, Culture and Society: Propaganda and Ideology 1939-1989.
