Dr Rich Picking: School of Computing and Communications Technology
I was born and brought up in the Grimsby area of Lincolnshire.
I studied for my degree at Leeds, then a masters at Sheffield, before taking up a software engineering post at Siemens.
This move took me to Stoke-on-Trent where I lived with my wife Liz for ten years.
During that time, I entered the teaching profession, and spent seven years at Staffordshire University.
Whilst at Staffordshire, I completed a part-time PhD at Loughborough, under the supervision of Professor Cliff McKnight.
Liz and I moved to Wrexham in 1997, where Liz joined Nightingale House Hospice as tutor. At about the same time, I went back into industry to work for ProAct in Denbigh.
After a couple of years there, I joined NEWI in Summer 1999 to take up teaching again and I've been here ever since.
Outside work, I enjoy playing in a couple of bands - one a disco-funk band (saxophones), and the other a Pink Floyd tribute band, where I get to play bass as well.
