Background

Professor Christopher Alan Lewis is Dean of Institute, Institute for Health, Medical Sciences and Society and Academic Lead of Psychology.  He holds degrees in both Psychology (BSc, MPhil, DPhil) and Education (MSc, MEd) from the University of Ulster, and also Religious Studies (MA) from Bangor University. 

He is a Fellow of the Psychological Society of Ireland (FPsSI), the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), the College of Teachers (FCollT), and the Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH). 

He is a Chartered Health Psychologist (CPsychol (Health)), a Chartered Scientist of the British Psychological Society and a Registered Psychologist (Reg Psychol) of the Psychological Society of Ireland. 

Prior to moving to Glyndŵr University he was at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland for 22 years. 

Chris is a member of a number of organisations including:

  • American Psychological Association;
  • British Psychological Society
  • Religious Research Association
  • Society for the Scientific Study of Religion
  • Psychological Society of Ireland 

Chris has been Founding Co-Editor of the journal Mental Health, Religion and Culture since its inception in 1998.  He was formerly Editor of the Irish Journal of Psychology and formerly Consulting Editor of the Journal of Social Psychology.  He is currently Founding Editor of the Welsh Journal of Psychology. 

Research interests

Chris’ research and teaching interests include: psychology of peace, conflict and violence; positive psychology; and the psychology of religion. Chris’ research employs mainly quantitative methods.
